Impact Trips

IMPACT TRIPS

IMPACT TRIP OPTIONS

house 2 house

This is a priority for RTS Missions and every team will experience this amazing time of relationship building and sharing the gospel.  Teams get up close and personal with the beautiful people of the Dominican Republic by walking house to house getting to know families, helping with whatever they might find and sharing the Gospel using a number of different evangelism tools. EvangeCube, witnessing bracelets, wordless books, etc…

His Kids VBS

Vacation Bible School is basically the same all over the world. You will have the opportunity to interact with the children of our His Kids youth discipleship program sharing the love of Christ through Bible messages, Skits, crafts and recreation. Based on our need, you will be spending your afternoons (Monday - Thursday) in VBS with the kids, or having VBS only Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Each day with the kids, you will give a full group Gospel presentation.  If needed, two of your afternoons will be House to House delivering food to families in dire need.

HIS FOOD - Distribution

As needed, teams will help RTS with the food distribution needs to children and families in dire need.  Most of the families we are serving do not know where their next meal is coming from, and our program helps with that.  Each family that receives food from our program receives the Gospel as well and is followed up with on a regular basis.

MEDICAL TRIPS

Use your gifts in the Dominican Republic to change lives through Jesus Christ. We provide medical teams with the option of serving in are beautiful onsight clinic, or we can facilitate mobile clinics going house to house or setting up in local chuches or schools in different communities.  No matter where you set up, there are people in great need of healthcare.  Your investment and time will impact people for eternity.

PASTOR/LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Do you have the gift of teaching? The pastors and their leadership have a deep desire for theology training. They thirst for God's word. Whether you are coming to teach for a couple days, a conference, or seminary class your gift will have a lasting impact.

We also have a desire for those to lead men, women, and marriage conferences.

Note: Team Payments should come in collectively as one payment, not individually.

Airfare is not included in the cost of our trips.

  • WHAT FLIGHTS SHOULD BE BOOKED?

Teams and individuals are responsible for their own airfare. RTS Missions asks that all flights arrive at the Santo Domingo airport on Saturday.  If you are unable to find a flight that meets our request, please email our office at info@rtsmissions.com for the approval to arrive on a different day.

We ask that if all possible and the cost is reasonable, that you choose flights to arrive before 2:30 PM.  We understand that the savings may be considerable arriving later. Although we do allow teams to purchase flights that arrive later, please try and contact us to let us know in advance.

Our main concern is with the team and our staff’s safety.  Your destination is a good distance from the airport and driving during daylight hours adds a measure of safety. During these times of COVID, some countries have strict curfew times that need to be adhered to as well.  Please note, if your flight arrives too late and our in-country leadership team believes the travel is not safe at night when you arrive, or we can not travel due to curfew times, your team will need to stay at a nearby hotel.  RTS can arrange for the hotel, but your team will be responsible for all hotel costs.

  • DO I NEED A PASSPORT AND VISA?

All North Americans traveling to Haiti and the DR must have a passport.  Check with your post office for a passport application.  You can also go to http://travel.state.gov/passport for more information.  If you are applying for a new passport, please allow 4 to 8 weeks for this process.  All travelers should bring a photocopy of the first two pages of their passport in their carry-on luggage.

You do not need a Visa.

  • WHERE DO WE STAY?

Team members will stay at the RTS Missions Guest House on our property.  Your team members will be assigned rooms by gender.  Each room has nice multiple bunk beds.  Rooms house anywhere from 6-15 people.  You may want to bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper!  There is A/C and bathrooms in each room.  Some team members bring small portable fans to attach the bunk to give them added air.  Standard U.S. electrical outlets are available.  RTS Missions will provide sheets, pillows, and towels.

  • HOW LONG IS A TRIP?

Impact trips are one week long from Saturday to Saturday.

We can customize a longer trip if needed.

Interns can choose from one month to a year based on availability and need.  Check our Emerge page for more information.

  • WHAT DOES THE TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER? IS THAT OUR RESPONSIBILITY?

Emergency medical insurance is strongly suggested for all teams and individuals traveling internationally with RTS Missions.  If you choose to purchase medical travel insurance, we have been using Missionary Travel Association for years and find them to be one of the very best.

The cost is $25 per person for 8 days.  The insurance covers emergency medical transportation services.  If anyone has medical emergencies, they will be picked up and flown to any hospital they need.  You can find the complete list of benefits and purchase your coverage at Missionary Travel Association.

  • WHAT WILL BE DONE DURING THE WEEK?

A majority of your week will be based on the trip you choose and if you choose a special project.  Your week will include an intense ministry opportunity caring for the physical and spiritual needs of the communities you visit.

You can choose any type trip as well as select a special project.  If you choose both, your day will be split spending time between the two.

    Example:

You choose a Vacation Bible School and you also choose for your group to do a special construction project.

The morning will be spent working on the construction site (Roughly from 8:30AM - 12:30PM)and the afternoon will be doing a VBS program.  (We try our best to do VBS programs in the afternoon so we do not interfere with the kids education.  VBS typically runs from 1:00PM to 4:00PM)  You will rest and eat your snacks between the two programs.

There are church services on Sunday, and some days during the week.  At times, we have week long revivals giving you an opportunity to attend church every night if wanted.

SECURITY CONCERNS

  • IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL?

RTS Mission would never be able to gaurantee your safety no matter where we traveled.  However we understand traveling to a third-world country represents a higher risk.  While serving in Hispaniola we have built amazing relationships and belong to a network of over 150 organizations, government offices and police departments.  The shared information through these networks allow RTS Missions to make the wisest decisions possible regarding your trip and safety.  We consider your safety a top priority and will not hesitate to postpone a trip or get teams out of the country if needed.

As far as COVID, we take every precaution possible to ensure everyone's safety and keep everything as clean and sterile as possible.

Please visit the U.S. Travel Advisory Page for more details about the country you are visiting.

  • WHAT IMMUNIZATIONS DO I NEED?

All individuals are encouraged to have the following vaccinations before entering the DR. Please check with your local health department a few weeks before your departure as some medications may require you to start days before entering the country.

    • Tetanus
    • Typhoid
    • Hepatitis A/B (B for Medical Trips)
    • Malaria Medication

We also encourage you to bring an antibiotic like Cipro as well as an anti-diarrheal medication.

  • ONCE I LAND IN THE DR, HOW DO I GET TO THE RTS CAMPUS?

RTS Missions will send every team a document outlining the entry process 30 days before arrival, but members of our team will either meet you in the airport or as you come out of the airport.

RTS Staff will take you to our vehicles and bring you safely to the RTS Missions Guest House.  The ride to our property is a good distance.  We strongy suggest using the facilities in the airport before you come out.

PREPARING FOR YOUR TRIP

  • WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

A suggested packing list can be found in the Orientation Manual that will be sent to all teams.  RTS will provide bedding and pillows.  Please bring a water bottle.  Pack snacks for your time out in the field.

  • DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN FOOD?

RTS Missions provides breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Please bring your favorite snacks for your time out in the field and evening time. Although RTS Missions will supply the food for your meals, we do send a food needs list from time to time to our teams.  There are many things that are hard to find in country and if we can find it, it is very expensive.

For teams having ministry programs on our campus, food items will be available for lunch.

**Please make RTS aware of any team member with food allergies as soon as possible**

  • WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

The DR culture is one that can be offended by the dress of another they feel is inappropriate. Our local pastors have requested that you follow the dress code found in our Orientation Manual to respect the culture and be more effective in ministry.  Please pay close attation to the dress code in the Orientation Manual. Please understand that our staff has the right to ask you to change if neccessary.

  • WHAT IF I HAVE A PHYSICAL CONDITION OR I AM ON REQUIRED MEDICATION?

Please notify RTS Missions as soon as possible if anyone on the team has a physical condition or is on required medication.  Please make sure to bring an ample supply of your medications, as finding medications can be difficult.

  • DO I NEED TO BRING MONEY?

There is no additional cost for your trip with RTS Missions.  However, there are a few things you will need money for:
